Earlier in March, I shot a campaign for the swimwear brand Kitty and Vibe which focused it's efforts on making swimwear shopping a positive experience for all.
Body image and the entertainment industry go hand in hand. I was fortunate enough to be on set with four other actresses and models who felt comfortable enough sharing their own insecurities with each other and dawning Kitty bikini's for the photo shoot.
I wish I could say that I never fell victim to fad diets, stick thin ideals, and manipulated media images but that is not the case. My own body image was tied directly to my self worth all throughout my teens and early 20's. Although an unretouched ad does not change generations of whitewashed and airbrushed beauty ideals; it is a start. Being a part of Kitty means leaving a positive stamp on an industry that had previously caused me so much pain. Every time I step in front of the camera, whether it be modeling swimwear, editorial looks, beauty campaigns, or even acting, I feel like I'm chipping away at beauty ideals and the voices in my head that once told me I couldn't succeed.
